In the nearly 20 years that I have personally spent educating Latinos worldwide about Islam -this year will by far be one of the most monumental in the history of IslamInSpanish. If you’ve been following IslamInSpanish then you’ll already be familiar with the big changes that occurred...

When the pandemic hit earlier this year, our community in Houston was hit hard. As businesses and institutions started to go on lockdown, so did our very own Centro Islamico -the ONLY Spanish-speaking Islamic Center in the U.S. How were we going to continue our various in-person outreach programs and events when we are forced to close? In the face of these very uncertain times, we remained more resilient than ever and quickly pivoted our entire operations to continue reaching the masses while in isolation. We moved all 17 of our English & Spanish classes, seminars, and programs online -13 of which are still ongoing! On top of this, we were able to continue to benefit the community through our various (virtual) partnerships throughout the year with organizations and institutions such as Yaqeen Institute, Rio Grande Valley, RICE University, U.S Census Bureau, the Institute for Social Policy and Understanding, and many others. On average, we were able to reach an estimated 1.2 MILLION people each month with our educational content about Islam on Facebook alone.

By the grace of Allah -and through the support of our generous supporters, we were able to conduct over 30 Virtual Shahadas with other Latinos that we interacted with online. Going into 2021, we would like to build on the momentum that we established this year and share Islam with MILLIONS of more people across the globe.
