Intro – Introducción

"Be Proud of Who You Are!"   

My beloved brothers and sisters, be proud of who you are!  Allah said: 

"I have created you from nations and tribes so that you can get to know one another"

Allah has created you, and He has made you different from every other human being on the face of the earth. It is those qualities that He gave you that make you special and interesting.  Never lose that special quality when entering the faith of Islam. 

Often times, when converts enter the fold of Islam, they immediately adopt the culture of the person or group that gave them shahadah.  You can remain being who you are!  You can continue representing whatever country you come from!  You can continue loving everything about your culture, its customs and people, as long as that does not go against Islam. 

I am a Puerto Rican Muslim and I remain proud of that.  In this video, I am sporting my Puerto Rican baseball cap demonstrating that there is nothing wrong with being proud of where you come from. I represent my flag in my car, sometimes in the gear I wear, and use the Spanish language when speaking with people who speak Spanish, as this always leaves an opportunity for me to give dawah. 

The only thing that we need to leave off are things that Allah has not allowed for us to partake in.  For instance, prior to Islam, I loved to eat roasted pork as prepared by Puerto Ricans.  Upon entering Islam, I had to push aside my love for pork chops, bacon, and roasted pork.  

Even though I had to push aside this food that I so much enjoyed eating, shortly thereafter, Allah replaced it with beef bacon, turkey chops, beef italian sausage and Allah allowed it to taste so similar that it immediately brought a smile to face and joy to my heart.  I was once again able to enjoy these small pleasures of life which I once loved, while still remaining obedient to the commands of Allah.

It is because we have been created from different nations and tribes that we seek to get to know one another.  It is these differences that in fact keep us curious about one another, thereby traveling to see the beauty found in various countries, while desiring to taste all of those amazing different cuisines that are found in these beautiful cultures.
