IslamInSpanish has been working for two decades to bridge the gap between Islam and Latino communities. We do this by providing educational materials and events in the Spanish language, as there is sadly so little, in spite of the rich history of Muslim Spain - Al Andalus. We do this because we believe in the transformative power of Islam, a force for good in the world. As Muslims, we have a mandate to search and spread knowledge. We accompany this with social programs and outreach. As Abu Bakr said “Action without knowledge is useless and knowledge without action is futile.”
For this Ramadan we are turning knowledge to action by raising funds for our State-of-the-art Islamic Center in Houston. This will include a Masjid, Media production center, educational halls and a museum on the contributions of Latino Muslims. It is one thing to read about history or Islam, and another thing all togethor to experience Allah in a Masjid, and to experience history and culture in a museum. The center will help facilitate further work for social good in our communities.
The importance of acting for social good in Islam is demonstrated by Zakat and the blessing multiplatication during Ramadan. In particular, many more blessings are afforded to those who give in the last ten nights of Ramadan, which hold a spiritual significance.
